About Me
I am an American psychologist in private practice in Frankfurt, Germany as a Heilpraktiker für Psychotherapie. I provide psychotherapy for the English-speaking expatriate community. As a depth psychologist, I integrate psychodynamic, body-mind and cognitive behavioural theories to tailor a course of individual therapy that will best suit my clients’ unique needs and concerns. I combine the philosophy of Sue Johnson's Emotionally-focused Therapy with the evidence-based techniques of Gottman theory to assist couples with their challenges. As new research and technology are always advancing psychology as a science, I believe it is important that my practice is well-informed with emerging philosophies and techniques. I make consistent effort to enrich my training and knowledge through continued education coursework, conferences, and ongoing supervision with other well-trained and experienced colleagues.
Over the course of my academic and professional careers, I have worked extensively with facets of identity development, human sexuality and multi-culturalism. I have taught graduate courses and conducted formal academic research on gender identity development and the best practices in affirmative counselling for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals. I have consulted with international corporations on diversity training and cultural awareness.
In service at present primarily to the English-speaking expatriate community of Frankfurt, I have a well-rounded understanding of the emotional dynamics that can arise throughout the course of a life abroad. Quite often, issues that may have been minor in one’s mother country can be easily aggravated and intensified when away from home. As culture shock is a real and multi-faceted experience, it is practically inevitable that every expatriate will experience some difficulty adjusting to life abroad. I have found that therapy can be an effective tool in assisting individuals and couples as they work to find their feet on unfamiliar soil.
My role as your psychologist is to assist you in pin-pointing your strengths, exploring your self-effacing behaviours and identifying the obstacles that stand in the way of your goals. I will treat you with respect, empathy, warmth and humour as we confidentially collaborate during your counselling process.
